Timeout Termination
Often you may want to terminate a backup session if it takes too long.

Consider This Scenario
- You have scheduled a backup to start at 10:00 PM every night
- You want to make sure backup finishes before 7:00 AM the next morning. If not, terminate the session to avoid a heavy load on your network.
Solution
There are 2 ways to accomplish this in Syncrify Client, depending on which version of the client you have downloaded (Integrated Client or Service-Based Client).
Using the Integrated Client
- BackupClient.exe -timeout 540 ProfileName.syncrify (Windows)
- java -jar SyncrifyClient.jar -timeout 540 ProfileName.syncrify (Linux)
- Click Modify button for the schedule
- Modify the value for the Run: field
You can specify a -timeout parameter as a command line argument to Syncrify Client. For example:
The value for -timeout parameter is specified in minutes. 540 represents the number of minutes between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM
On Windows, when using the integrated client interface, you can specify the command line argument in the Scheduled Task.
Using the Service-Based Client:
For a Windows Machine
Open up Windows Task Scheduler and create a new Task.
Provide a task name and follow the instructions for the wizard until completion.
For a Linux Machine
Use the program Cron Tab

Disadvantages of Terminating
When the -timeout parameter is used Syncrify will terminate the process with the following side effects:
- Syncrify server won't know about this event. It will continue thinking Syncrify client is active for the next 5 hours and will eventually consider it dead.
- No email will be sent for the job
